Why should I consider using Sports Massage?
As training loads increase, a point is reached where the body is no longer able to fully recover between sessions, and performance may level off and eventually decline. The symptoms of incomplete recovery of the musculoskeletal system are muscle pain, joint pain, tendon and bursa inflammation.
Any serious athlete / cyclist should consider the overall benefits of incorporating massage into their Training Plan. The ability of an athlete to recover quicker and undertake increased training loads offer the athlete a major advantage over their competitors.
What are the physiological benefits of sports massage?
Massage increases blood flow both in and out of the affected areas (improving fluid exchange) - speeding up the healing process.
Massage stimulates the removal of accumulated metabolic waste. As a result of exercise, waste products such as lactic acid and urea a build-up in the muscles creating stiffness, pain and soreness. Regular sports massage can be of particular benefit by speeding up the recovery process during periods of hard training.
The general condition of soft tissue can be improved through regular massage. Elasticity and pliability of tissues will improve. Restrictions and thickening in fascia, tendons and ligaments may be relieved. Additionally, massage helps to prevent formation of adhesions and/or mobilise scar tissue.
