Graduate Sports Therapists

We are highly qualified and experienced Graduate Sports Therapists. Our examination, treatment and rehabilitation methods are based on sound research and clinical reasoning. Many of our patients are non-sporting and have musculoskeletal problems which are a result of gardening, working, or lifestyle choices. Irrespective of whether your injury is sport or work-related - you will be  welcomed.

Our aim at this clinic is to consider each individual patient and develop a unique treatment and rehabilitation programme specific to his or her particular needs. Some of the most common injuries and ailments we encounter are overuse injuries or repetitive strain. These include the foot and leg pain, neck and back pain - as well as general aches. Knee pain and shoulder pain are common in athletes.

We spend time carrying out a detailed Examination and Assessment aimed at establishing the reasons and causative factors of your injury. Thereafter, we adopt a multifactorial approach which integrates various forms of therapy and rehabilitation. Our aim is to address the cause, not just treat the symptoms. This approach not only facilitates a safe recovery, but also helps educate the patient to protect against reoccurrence.

As members of The Society of Sports Therapists (SST) we have to comply with the SST Standards of Proficiency (click here). This document sets out the standards of proficiency that form the minimum benchmark requirement for Member status of The Society of Sports Therapists.

What is Sports Therapy?

"Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of function, occupational and sports specific, regardless of age and ability."

The Society of Sports Therapists was established in 1990 to address the growing demands from sport and leisure on everyone involved in the management and care of injured participants. With the increasing emphasis on "Sport for All" and the escalating number of participants at all levels, it was imperative that the provision and availability of support services was standardised and monitored. Furthermore, with the number of incidents requiring immediate "lifesaving" first aid techniques rising, there was a need for an organisation to ensure that adequate, effective and appropriate training courses were provided and monitored. With these issues in mind The Society of Sports Therapists was formed. For more details visit http://www.society-of-sports-therapists.org/home.htm

Regulation of Sports Therapists

On May 11th 2006, it was formally agreed by the Health Professions Council (HPC) ‘to recommend to the Secretary of State that, in the interests of public protection, Sports Therapists should be regulated’. In Feb 2011, the Council of the HPC made a further statement which will hopefully conclude with the formal regulation of Sports Therapy in the not too distant future. Accredited Educational Qualifications

From inception, one of the priorities of The Society of Sports Therapists was to achieve national recognition and to accredit and validate educational programmes in Sports Therapy. Since its formation the Society has made major advances in the development of accredited educational qualifications. In 1996 The Society of Sports Therapists entered into its first collaborative agreement with London Metropolitan University. Since that time the Society has now developed further collaborative agreements with other Universities in the United Kingdom and is continuing to develop further programmes. The Society now works with over 17 Universities to deliver accredited degree courses in BSc (Hons) Sport Therapy and MSc Sports Therapy.
